DIY Fire Pit

This home is our first time having a yard space of our own. One of the great aspects of our home is the yard, and Aaron was eager to get some backyard features started! First on the list was a garden, which will be a separate blog post, and next was a fire pit.

We decided to move forward with a simple design with simple materials. Our home and neighborhood proudly feature nature in all its glory: mature trees, wooded areas, wild growing bushes, all the things a nature girl loves. We wanted to keep the vibes as natural as possible. We used rocks as our fire pit flooring and stones as our space divider. We also used those same rocks as stairs that we built, defining a walkway to higher ground right beside the area.

This was also one of the first outdoor projects we enjoyed with the kids helping out a little. It can get challenging doing certain projects with toddlers around, but the materials used in this job were low risk enough to have them around.

In addition to the grounding and actual fire pit, we also DIY’d some chairs that we found for cheap, painted some flower pots to add our post anchors for our string lights, and also planted some ferns in them. Check out our YouTube video of the full process below!

Our fire pit is the central seating location in our yard and we absolutely love how it turned out. After a couple years, we want to add a few more elements to elevate the space even more. Once we do we will post the updates!

Would you try a fire pit in your yard? What materials would you use? What part of your yard is the best area for the project? We hope that our project inspires you to express your creativity and DO IT YOURSELF!
